Every year on 19th of August it is 'International Photography Day' (World Photography Day). It focuses on the (positive) impact that photos and photographers have on our society.
The date of 19th of August was chosen for a reason: this was the day that in 1839 the daguerreotype was released by the French government and could be used by everyone in the world.
Daguerreotype is an early photographic method, invented by Louis Daguerre in the first half of the 19th century. The process was purchased by the French government in 1839 and Daguerre has since been regarded as the 'official' inventor of photography.
This day is also known as 'World Photo Day'.
